The Ida B. Wells supports the Portland area PTA Clothing Center with donations and volunteer contributions. The Center serves over 2000 students across the community each school year, providing them with clothing and shoes so that they can feel good about attending school. Our PTA and Wells community contributions help to enable the Center to follow through on the mission of supporting every student. Want to help? Email the PTA at idabwellspta@gmail.com.
The Ida B. Wells food pantry supports our student community year-round, and during the holiday season, the school's social worker and counselors extend this effort by creating winter gift baskets for families in need through the PTA. Last year, thanks to the generosity of our IBW families and community, we provided baskets for 50 families, raising $10,000 in donations. This year, we invite your continued support through monetary contributions or gift cards to ensure we can make a meaningful impact once again! To contribute in this way, simply click here. In need? Writers in the Schools (WITS), organized by Literary Arts in Oregon, connects professional authors with public high schools and alternative schools across Portland. These writers lead semester-long workshops, inspiring students to engage with creative writing and develop their skills. The program also includes mentorships, one-day visits, teacher workshops, and public student readings, fostering a love for literature while building community connections. At Ida B. Wells High School, the program is funded through your PTA, ensuring students benefit from this enriching educational experience. For more information please visit Literary Arts - WITS Program.
